Heather is a physician assistant who is licensed by the state of Virginia and nationally certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) to practice medicine under the supervision of a physician. She has practiced in dermatology and plastic surgery since graduating with her Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies in 1999.  She currently serves as the Chairperson for the Governmental Affairs Committee of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants (SDPA).  She is a member of the American Association of Physician Assistants (AAPA) and the Virginia Association of Physician Assistants (VAPA).  She also actively participates in the meetings of the Tidewater Dermatology Association.
