David M. Pariser, M.D.

A Medical College of Virginia graduate, Dr. David Pariser received his dermatology  training at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center.  He is on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Dermatology and is currently a professor of  the Eastern Virginia  Medical School Department of Dermatology.  As the senior dermatologist in the practice, Dr. David Pariser has brought over two decades of experience to tens of thousands of patients in the Hampton Roads area.

Quite active in the affairs of the American Academy of Dermatology, Dr Pariser has served on over 85 committees including the committee on Guidelines of Care, Managed Care, Task forces on Universal Health programs, Scientific Assembly Committee, Health Care Reform Issues and Regulatory Affairs, and the Advisory Board for which he served as Vice-Chair for two 4-year terms.  He has been a representative to the Medicare Carrier Advisory Committee for Virginia, and is a past Chair of the Committee on Organizational Structure of the American Academy of Dermatology and was Assistant Secretary-Treasurer for 3 years, Secretary-Treasurer for 3 years and a Board member of the Academy for 10 years.  He is the 2009 President.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. David participates in clinical research and is in the forefront of pharmaceutical development in the field of dermatology. 

 

 

Robert J. Pariser, M.D.

After graduating from the Medical College of Virginia, Dr. Robert Pariser completed dermatology specialty training at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center.  He is a professor in the Department of Dermatology at Eastern Virginia Medical School.  Also, he is an associate professor of the Department of Pathology at Eastern Virginia Medical School. An AMA member, as well as a member of the American Academy of Dermatology.

 

 

Robert S. Baer, M.D.

Dr. Baer views himself as a family practitioner for the skin. He sees the patient as a whole person and enjoys knowing and treating family members regardless of their age. He has a strong base in pediatric dermatology since his residency training was under Dr. Larry Soloman, a world renowned pioneer in pediatric dermatology. He also received training from Drs. Alastair and Jean Carruthers, the pioneers of Botox® Cosmetic.

At the other end of the spectrum, Dr. Baer particularly enjoys caring for senior patients with their own problems of sun damage, skin thinning and skin cancer. Twenty years of clinical experience really helped his diagnostic abilities and he stays current with the most current treatments available. His expertise includes eczema, acne, psoriasis, occupational skin disease and skin cancer. Hair, nail and mucous membrane disease, he has studied extensively.

He tries to offer same day surgery for most skin lesions. He is skilled in cryosurgery, phototherapy, allergy testing and does participate in some clinical trials of soon to be available medications. Dermatoscopy is a new and exciting tool he uses to evaluate moles for cancer (malignant melanoma). He enjoys assisting patients with cosmetic concerns and offers Botox® Cosmetic, Restylane® and CosmoDerm® injections to correct facial wrinkles. 

Dr. Baer is a frequent lecturer in the State and along the East Coast.

 

Linda M. Serwatka, M.D.

Dr. Linda Serwatka began her medical career as a registered nurse, including two years as an Army nurse. She returned to college and graduated from Trinity University and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa society. She studied medicine at the University of Texas.  Upon graduation, she returned to the Army and after completing her dermatology residency had numerous assignments as Chief of Dermatology at major medical centers both at home and abroad.  She retired from the Army with the rank of Colonel. Dr. Serwatka is a diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology, a member of the AMA, the American Academy of Dermatology, the Women's Dermatology Association as well as local and state medical dermatology societies. She enjoys treating all types of patients from young people with acne to senior citizens with sun-damaged skin and skin cancer.  She practices medicine as an avocation, treating all as she would want to be treated... there is always time to spend with each patient. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, studying the piano and boating with her husband of 39 years. She is active in the Hampton Roads community as a volunteer. She is a board member of the Friends of the Hampton Public Library.

 

 Lawrence K. Chang, M.D.

After graduating from the University of Colorado, Dr. Chang completed his dermatology residency and Mohs micrographic surgery fellowship at the University of Iowa.  Over the years, he developed an interest in Procedural Dermatology.  He devotes his time to care for patients with skin cancer, varicose veins and cosmetic needs.  He provides the following services to his patients:  Mohs micrographic surgery for skin cancer, IPL for facial blemishes, endovenous thermal ablation for varicose veins, sclerotherapy,  fillers and Botox for facial wrinkles, general dermatologic surgery, laser (Pixel and Total Fx) facial resurfacing, tattoo laser removal, IPL hair removal, chemical peels, and the Thermage procedure for skin tightening and contouring.  He is a member of the American College of Mohs Surgery, American Medical Association, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, American College of Phlebology and the American Academy of Dermatology. His wife's name is Linda, and he has a son, Samuel and a daughter named Molly.

 

 Molly K. Smith, M.D.

        Molly K. Smith MD, originally from Tampa , Florida , received her Master's degree and Medical Doctorate from Eastern Virginia Medical School . She also completed her dermatology residency training here at EVMS. She then attended Case-Western Reserve University in Cleveland for a two year fellowship in dermatopathology. The cold weather brought her back home to Norfolk , where she is practicing general dermatology and dermatopathology and holds board certifications in both of these specialties. She is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and has been President of the Tidewater Dermatology Society. Dr. Smith enjoys treating children and adults with a wide range of skin diseases, from acne to cutaneous malignancies. She feels it is important to help educate patients about their skin, and will be more than happy to answer any questions a patient may have about their skin disease. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, reading, the challenge of hot yoga, and taking her pug Rocky and Boston Terrier Calvin for a walk.

 

 Alan E. Rolfe, M.D.

        Alan E. Rolfe, M.D., FACP, FAAD joined Pariser Dermatology Specialists in March 2008 after completing more than 27 years of military and federal service.  He retired as Chairman, Dermatology Department, Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, VA.  He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Dermatology, and completed his most recent training in Dermatology at the Joint Dermatology Residency Program at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center in 1998.  Dr. Rolfe has a special interest in the cutaneous manifestations of internal disease and skin cancer surgery.  He is married to Phyllis Hope, M.D, FAAP and they have 2 children—Harrison and Helen.  His hobbies and interests include fishing and spending far too much time on the internet!  He brings a wealth of experience in consultative Internal Medicine and Dermatology to the practice.

 

 

 Cyndi M. Torosky, M.D.

After graduating from Eastern Virginia Medical School, Dr. Torosky completed a Research Fellowship with Virginia Clinical Research and returned to EVMS for her residency training in dermatology.  Her professional affiliations include the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Dermatology.  Dr. Torosky enjoys treating patient with acne and rosacea as well performing cosmetic procedures such as chemical peels, Botox® Cosmetic and dermal fillers such as Restylane, Juvéderm and Radiesse. In her free time she likes to downhill ski, travel and spend time with friends and family and her German Shepherd Dog Otto. Dr. Torosky is newly married to Michael DePalma.

 

 

 Kaija Hanneman, D.O.

        Dr. Kaija Hanneman is a graduate of Des Moines University of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her dermatology residency at University Hospitals Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. While at Case Western Reserve she also completed a 1 year fellowship in photodermatology, performing translational research for new sunscreen and antioxidant products and clinical trials for cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. Dr. Hanneman’s office locations include Newport News and Williamsburg, where she practices general dermatology and dermatologic surgery for skin cancer. Dr. Hanneman also offers cosmetic procedures such at Botox® and fillers for facial wrinkles, as well as various laser procedures. In her spare time Dr. Hanneman loves to travel. She also enjoys cooking, going to the gym and spending time with family and friends.

 

Wm. Kelly DeHart, D.O.

    Dr. Kelly DeHart is a graduate of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.  He completed his residency training at University Hospitals/Case Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio.  Dr. DeHart’s office locations include Williamsburg and Newport News where he practices general dermatology.  He has a special interest in treating cutaneous malignancies.  He is a member of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology (AOCD).  Dr. DeHart is originally from Southwest Virginia where his parents and sister still reside.  He has an identical twin brother who is also a dermatologist.  In his spare time he enjoys time at the gym, playing several sports (volleyball, racquetball, basketball and golf), reading, and spending time with friends.

        Larissa is a physician assistant who is licensed by the state of Virginia and nationally certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) to practice medicine under the supervision of a physician.  She has practiced with Pariser Dermatology Specialists since graduating with her Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant studies from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 2004.  She is currently a member of the Society for Dermatology Physician Assistants (SDPA), the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) and the Virginia Academy of Physician Assistants (VAPA).  She also actively participates in the meetings of the Tidewater Dermatology Association.

        Amanda M. Waggoner, P.A.-C Amanda received her undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado in Kinesiology. During college she worked in a dermatology practice. She then went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant studies from Eastern Virginia Medical School. She is a certified physician assistant who is licensed by the state of Virginia and is nationally certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) to practice medicine under the supervision of a physician. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) and the Society for Dermatology Physician Assistants (SDPA). Amanda also is a participant in the Tidewater Dermatology Association.

 

 

 Melissa Alcox, P.A.-C

        Melissa Alcox is a physician assistant certified by the NCCPA and licensed by the state of Virginia. Melissa is a local to the tidewater area, and grew up in Virginia Beach. After graduation from Cox High School, Melissa went to James Madison University graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Health Sciences and minor in Biology and pre physician assistant studies. She stayed active in volunteering in the medical field as a member of the Virginia Beach rescue squad and was a national public speaker for JMU’s REACH program (Reality Educators Advocating Campus Health). Melissa received her Masters in Medical Science (MMS) and an additional Bachelor of Science after completing the PA program at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL. During PA school, Melissa was the Florida Academy of Physician Assistant’s student representative for Nova Southeastern University. She recognized her interest in dermatology after completing two clinical rotations in dermatology. She then moved back to Hampton Roads and practiced emergency medicine until joining Pariser Dermatology in September of 2007. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) and the Society for Dermatology Physician Assistants (SDPA). She is excited to work with Pariser Dermatology because she is looking forward to building relationships with her patients.

 

Heather K. Miller, P.A.-C

Heather is a physician assistant who is licensed by the state of Virginia and nationally certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) to practice medicine under the supervision of a physician. She has practiced in dermatology and plastic surgery since graduating with her Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies in 1999.  Heather has served as a board member and a Fellow member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants (SDPA).   She has also been a member of other professional organizations including the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) and the Virginia Academy of Physician Assistants (VAPA) during her career.  An employee of Pariser Dermatology since 2001, Heather enjoys treating a variety of patients and caring for all of their medical and cosmetic cutaneous concerns. Heather is a mom to two little boys and wife to a wonderful physician for nearly 10 years.  In their free time, the Miller Family enjoys spending time outdoors at the beach and entertaining family and friends at their home in Virginia Beach.
